Delicious Basic Hummus
Ingredients
- 2 Tins Tins chickpeas
- 1 100 ml Brown tahini
- 1 500 ml Lemon juice
- 1 As per taste Salt
- 100 ml Water (50-100ml)
- 2 Heaped tsp Olive oil
- 1 pods Clove of garlic
- 1 Heaped tsp Cumin
- 1 Heaped tsp Paprika to garnish
- 1 As per taste Chopped parsley or coriander to garnish
Method
- Drain the two tins of chick peas, place in a food processor and blend for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the tahini paste, lemon juice, half the olive oil, (the optional garlic or cumin) and the salt, then continue to blend for another 1-2 minutes.
- Add water till the hummus is a thick, smooth paste, or to your preferred consistency.
- Spoon your hummus into a serving bowl creating a well in the middle, then drizzle over your remaining olive oil. You can now garnish with paprika and chopped herbs if you choose. Serve with warm pitta bread.
Ideal For
Typically hummus is served with toasted pitta bread for dipping as suggested above. You can also slice up carrots, cucumber and peppers which are a healthy substitute which are also ideal for dipping. Hummus can be served with falafel, as an additional dip on the side or even as a filler inside the pitta bread, with salad.
